IMPD SUBSTATION

SUPPORT OUR POLICE OFFICERS

Support the IMPD Substation

In partnership with IMPD and BRAG, we are working to create a focus on IMPD community substations to build an increased police presence and engagement in our community.

The property owners at the Shadeland Station Shopping Center at 75th & North Shadeland Avenue has generously donated a space to host an IMPD Substation.

We have set up a GoFundMe with a goal of $5,000 in community support. In addition, we hope to raise $5,000 in corporate sponsorships.

A total of $10,000 will be used in the following ways.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Substation?

A substation is a place where police officers can retreat to complete paperwork, use the restroom, refuel with a snack and meet with other officers. Substations are not open to the public and do not serve as a ‘police station’ where people can file reports or conduct other police business.

Why do we want an IMPD substation?

Wherever they are located, substations create a police presence with officers dropping in as needed across all three shifts. A substation deepens the connection of the police to the community it serves and provides an opportunity for citizens to see police officers on a regular basis—especially in a community like ours that lacks ‘public spaces’ for incidental interactions. There is currently a substation located at the ministry center at Castleton United Methodist Church. This substation will remain open; the Shadeland Station substation is in addition to the one at Castleton.

What will the IMPD Substation include?

We plan to furnish the space with a large table capable of seating 8-10 people for meetings, a desk for officers, comfortable chairs, a kitchenette complete with a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. The property owner is providing Wi-Fi so officers can complete reports. The space will also include visible signage that identifies it as a police-occupied space to discourage crime in the area. This includes signage on the windows and a permanent exterior sign on the building.

When will the IMPD Substation open?

It’s open NOW! We officially opened early Summer 2020. We are still working on signage, a few furnishings, and making sure longterm maintenance and cleaning are in place.
